Is there anything more exhilarating than a confetti exit on your wedding day? It's a moment filled with pure joy, laughter, and those magical, spontaneous emotions you'll remember forever. As a wedding photographer with over 14 years of experience and countless confetti tosses captured, I want to share some friendly tips to help you create the most incredible confetti exit photos imaginable. Get ready to sprinkle your love story with confetti magic!

Material Matters: Nature's Touch and Biodegradable Bliss!
Let's keep Mother Earth happy, shall we? Say no to plastic or foil confetti and opt for eco-friendly options. My all-time favorites are fresh petals, like those from roses and other big-petal flowers. They're not only beautiful but also heavier than dried petals. That means they won't get blown away if a breeze decides to join your celebration. However, dried petals are super convenient and can be prepared well in advance. Just remember, fresh petals need some last-minute love from family or friends on the day before or morning of your wedding. Delegate, my friends!

Apart from petals, there are so many other delightful materials you can incorporate into your confetti toss. Let's explore some creative ideas that will add an extra touch of magic to your confetti exit.
Nature's Fragrance:
Who says confetti has to be limited to flower petals? Consider throwing leaves of lavender, thyme, sage, or rosemary. These aromatic herbs will not only create a visually stunning moment but will also fill the air with their delightful scents, adding a sensory element to your confetti experience.
Traditional Rice:
If you want to embrace a time-honored tradition, why not opt for rice? It symbolizes prosperity, fertility, and good fortune. Just be mindful of your venue's regulations, as some may have restrictions on rice throwing. And remember, it's all about biodegradable choices!

Get Crafty:
Want to add a personalized touch to your confetti? Get creative and cut out confetti shapes from dried leaves. Whether it's circles, stars, hearts, or any other design that speaks to you, these unique and eco-friendly confetti pieces will make your exit truly one-of-a-kind.
Oh, and have you ever seen confetti cannons in action? They're the bomb! They make a spectacular moment, but keep in mind they can be loud and expensive if you buy one for each guest. So, why not get a few (2-4) and assign a special group of people to handle them?

Color Matters: Bright, Bold, and Beautiful!
Picture this: you're exiting the church and stepping into the world as newlyweds. If your confetti exit takes place against a dark background, any type of petals will create a stunning effect. So, go ahead and choose intense or light-colored petals—they'll look amazing! But, if you're celebrating in an open field or along a sunny beach, opt for rich, vibrant colors and big petals. They'll pop against the light background, adding an extra layer of wow to your photos.

Size Matters: Go Big or Go Home!
While some photographers suggest using small confetti, I'm here to tell you that bigger is better! Tiny confetti can easily disappear in your pictures unless they're super colorful. But why settle for that? Let's make a statement! Choose larger confetti that will show up everywhere and make your photos burst with joy and excitement. Trust me, you'll love the impact it creates!

How Much Confetti Should We Buy? The More, the Merrier!
In the confetti world, there's no such thing as too much confetti! Aim for at least two good handfuls per person who will be throwing it. Usually, around 50-70% of your guests will join in the confetti fun. So, let's make it rain confetti and create a colorful storm that perfectly captures your joyous moment!

When to Throw Confetti? Sprinkle Love Throughout the Day!
Confetti can be the cherry on top at various key moments during your wedding day. Consider having confetti tosses:
after the ceremony (usually called the "confetti exit")
during group photos
when you make your grand entrance at the reception,
during your first official dance as a married couple.
or even during your wedding cake cutting!
Each confetti moment adds a unique touch to your day, capturing different emotions and creating an album full of cherished memories!

The Perfect Setup for a Confetti Shot: Love in the Air!
Imagine this enchanting scene: you and your sweetheart, surrounded by a circle or semi-circle of beaming guests. Or maybe as you walk hand in hand through the confetti tunnel they create, take it slow, stop, kiss, smile, and savour the love pouring down on you. These candid interactions will make your photos shine with warmth, intimacy, and genuine happiness. You can also opt for a classic group photo confetti toss - it's best to gather everyone on the steps of a church or town hall. Guests can throw confetti up in the air while you two share a magical moment, filled with love, laughter, and pure bliss. During cake cutting celebration: as you and your partner prepare to cut your beautiful wedding cake, why not add an extra dose of magic with a confetti explosion? Coordinate confetti cannons to go off at the moment the cake knife touches the sweet confection. The burst of confetti will enhance the excitement and create a picture-perfect moment that perfectly captures the joy of the occasion.

Ways to Share the Confetti Love:
Let's make sure every guest gets their confetti fix! You can have a basket overflowing with petals, offering a handful to each guest as you make your way through the crowd. Or why not have cute confetti cones, two per person, ready for a joyful confetti shower? Confetti bags, envelopes, or sachets are also fantastic options to sprinkle confetti magic everywhere. Choose the one that matches your style and let the confetti frenzy begin!

Additional Tips to Keep in Mind:
Avoid throwing confetti in the rain, as wet petals or biodegradable material can leave stains on your clothes. We want you to sparkle, not smudge!
Before the big day, make sure to check with your church or venue for any confetti restrictions. Most places love biodegradable confetti, but let's double-check to avoid any surprises. However, if you discover that your chosen venue or church does not allow any form of confetti, don't worry! There's a delightful alternative that will still create a whimsical atmosphere—bubbles! Bring on the bubble machines and get ready for a magical bubble-filled exit. The shimmering bubbles will add a touch of playfulness and create stunning photo opportunities. So, embrace the joy of bubbles and let them float you away into a world of happiness and celebration!

There's another creative workaround that will still create a magical and enchanting exit. Instead of throwing confetti, you can involve your guests in creating a stunning lane of flowers or an espalier tunnel. Here's how it works:
Line up your guests in two lanes along the church or venue exit and ask them to hold up beautiful flowers. As you and your partner make your way through this floral pathway, you'll be surrounded by a breathtaking corridor of colors and scents. It's a picturesque alternative that adds a touch of elegance and romance to your exit!

Being showered with colorful confetti by your favorite people is an absolute dream come true! Whichever type of confetti you choose, it's a truly magical moment that deserves some pre-wedding preparation to make it as extraordinary as you've always imagined. Let's capture the sheer happiness, love, and excitement of your confetti exit in breathtaking photographs that will transport you back to that very moment for years to come. Embrace the symbolism of the confetti throw, dance through the confetti storm, and let your love story shine bright with confetti magic. It's time to create memories that will make your hearts flutter and your smiles last a lifetime!
